The beams mk2 is faster than the blacktop mk1 despite being 500lbs heavier. The blacktop gets you a low 15second 1/4 usually. In a mk2 the redtop gets you a mid to low 14second 1/4. With a redtop in a mk1, you should be solidly into the 13's. It's a somewhat heavier motor, but probably still lighter than a 4agze.

The beams is a real nice engine but costs the most overall closely followed by the 20v blacktop. I would go for the 3sge beams personally. I would get it out of a manual altezza as it is different to the automatic altezza. You do get them in mr2s, celicas and calidans but I think the altezza one would be easier to work with.
